I am a total dork and I am shy for the most part. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so I'd have to post a picture of myself for that mystery to be solved. So yeah I would fit most of the sterotype but I don't believe that others must conform to said stereotype in order to enjoy anime.

I'm a little shy, I'm not dorky, and I'm certainly not ugly (heh-heh, I'm Asian!) I know a lot of people who like anime who fit the stereotype (eew). They're a bunch of freaks.

"ive seen a girl reading manga once but i would have never thought she would because she was HOT!"

Isn't that being stereotypical? :P

You know what I say to stereotypes, they're like generalizations; generalizations are bad! Wait that is one. There is my point stereotypes and subsequent generalizations are unavoidable. However that doesn't make them good. Getting hit by a train when you lie on train tracks is unavoidable (that and stupid), but that doesn't make it good for you. Eating healthy foods is like living without stereotypes, you can't do it forever, occasionaly a friend offers some chocolate cake and you can't help but accept. To quote Mars attacks, "Wow, they're disgusting. Don't forget that we probibly look as equally disgusting to them as they do to us." Think about that the next time you critisize someone's looks.

Kotuso, somehow I really didn't picture Alabama as a state with alot of Japanese/anime/manga fans. There's a stereotype again, see look they're unavoidable. there's anotherone I think they're mutiplying. Quick someone get the spray can we're going sterotype spraying. Everyone check your grandparents and basements for really nasty ones. They leave nasty emotional welts when they bite and they sting for hours on end.

no,your pretty much right DNinja, except that I'm gonna make the stereotype right now and say that Mississippi has less. Half me stereotyping, half me knowing how Mississippi is like(born there, got realatives there).

Most of the anime fans in AL live in basements with artifical zombie parts, like me. But I do know a guy in my school who reads manga during class, and that's soemthing really brave to do.

Come to think of it,showing any kind of self-expression is being pretty brave in Alabama, besides from Football that is.

To qoute my dad,"Insecure Red-necks"(which is a stereotype as well, lol) pretty much sums up most of Alabamian mentality. Like one time my bro was playing DDR at the movies and two preps/rednecks(more stereotyping) took a picture of him with thier camera phones and called him a Fag beneath there breath. Shows how insecure even playing games are. Not to mention they weren't even man enought to say it out loud,I just did the little bro thing and eavesdropped.

My bro doesn't care though. I would be lying if I said he didn't stereotype(he likes doing it secertly, probably)but he doesn't really care what his image is to other people.(not physical image, but representation)

That's pretty neat.

Alot of people tend to regard anime otaku as freaks. Or at least as being a nerd or geek. Hey! But that's not true! I don't think being physically "hot" or not has much to do with it, but rather, where a person is at their school/home and how far up they on the "school-social-status-hierarchy." xD Is is the extremely popular jocks and slutty girls who read manga, or the lesser so-called nerds and band geeks? I think it's both. Sometimes people steorotype me, I guess, because I openly read manga at school sometimes (though it really depends on the class and whose in it). But by the time people know I like anime/manga, they already know me so it doesn't change their opinion nor tries to fit me into the stereotypes.

There's just too many of the Yuugiou/Pokemon-obsessed TCG-playing nerds corrupting their minds into believing certain things about us anime fans. >_>

I think I said this somewhere before but anyway, most people don't look below the surface of a person. It really works on my nerves when people just assume something about me. People think that it is just the outcasts that have identity issues. I get writen off as a popular idiot with nothing on my mind but sports. Nothing is as it seems. Sure I am a hypocrit because sometimes I am quick to judge people myself but I do make an effort to know the individual under the popped collar, black eyeliner, bloody t-shirt, enyce sweats, or pocket protector. We all just have to take a little time to see the completely unique person underneath the layers of generalizations.

lol, nope, not for me and i'm pretty sure it doesn't have to be like that for anime-lovers, anime isn't something bad, it's just a hobby

I may not be able do get a girlfriend but just a couple of days ago I went on a date, so bohaha to that stereo type.

Besides there is also the stereotype that otaku are weak, fat, and out of shape.

not me.

Shy? maybe. But the only shirts I wear are anime shirts.

I make sure people know that I like anime because I break the stereotype. On the train in Japan, people were always avoiding eye contact with me like I was scary. That is when I bust out the manga DiGi Charat, Yotsubato, or Kami-chama Karin. Its funny because the scary foreiner is now reading fluffy cutesy japanese manga.
