I agree with what Imppy said. Actually, associating crappy with excrement is taking it literally.

"Walang kwenta and computer ko" best sums it up. "Walang kwenta" being "worthless" in English.

ok then "Meron akong Sirang Computer" too... lol

Learning tagalog is cool!, but I'd like to listen to it, that would be even better! ^_^... anyway, keep writting things in tagalog wiii!!! that is great!

err... how do you say "I want to be online more often"?... BTW I really do.

@Kei-kun

I want to be online more often can be said as "Gusto ko mas madalas akong online."

There isn't a direct Tagalog term for online, I think.

Gusto-want
mas madalas-more often or more frequently. The word "mas", as in Spanish, meaning more.

On pronunciation, I guess it was mentioned somewhere in this thread that we don't have any emphasis on the vowels, much like the Japanese language.

A for about
E for elegant
I for important
O for online
U for ultimate

You say it as you read it. Hence

Gusto ko mas madalas akong online

will be said as

Goos-to koh mas ma-da-las ah-kong on-line.

Ouch. I think I butchered it. XD

Hope that helped, Kei-kun! :)

Beatrix's post above me was helpful tebayo~ it complies with the filipino slang, like~ how do I describe it~? Has that strong accent dattebayo~! Weeh~!

But those are just the basics, some words have different way of saying the vowels. I can't give any example, I'm not good at Filipino XD maybe some will continue my explanation if they get what I mean dattebayo~ "(^ω^)"

i know what you are saying immpy
the reason is beacause the Filipino language comprises of different words from different languages brought here by other countries in their quest to conquer the country(d ko ma-english ang mananakop, hehe) and stays here for a long time..

also another reason is that there is so many dialect used in different parts of the philippines other than the main language which is the Filipino language.. each dialect has different ways of pronouncing the vowels...

in fact the term tagalog refers to the dialect of those people who live in southern luzon, particularly in quezon province..

i know one word..
pinakbet(a vegetable meal from the north)
it is not read as pi-nak-bet by the ilocanos but pi-nak-but..(i can't properly discuss it without you hearing the exact pronounciation)

ACK! more languages. But beatrix told that you pronounce tagalog as you write it..

It should be same as finnish then, but when I look at that pronouncing tip, it's totally differend from how I would pronounce it as fin o.O And yes, you do pronounce finnish exactly as it's written xD

ACK! Im in pain with languages ^^'

but don't you worry Nekomimi-chan...

yes basically, beatrix is right about that
you pronounce tagalog as you right it
("kung anong salita sya ring baybay")
if you live in places where the dialect they are using is very similar to the main language..
but in cases like those who live in provinces, their way of pronouncing vowels are slightly different..

@Zell I can teach you all the cursings ;33

Id say the alphabeths at least are pronounced same way in finnish.

But I don't make ANY kind of variations in my speaking
If I say in finnish something like "my computer is crappy"
I say "Mun tietsikka on ihan paska" Or if I want to be a bit more formal (and polite!) Id say "minun tietokoneeni on todella huono"
And I pronunce it exactly like that. I can't even explain who to pronounce it, because it is exactly like that ^^'

Makes any sense?
And the same goes for tagalog?

@lei*iel

Pinakbet is supposed to be pronounced as pak-but. My mum is from the north, and I speak (and can curse beautifully) in their dialect.

@Nekomimi

Yes, the principle is pretty much the same. You read it as it is written :)

@ZPARTICUS

Oh my freaking Gawd! You actually had to put up that song! Bohahahaha! Those were the days, weren't it? When IBC 13 reigned supreme in airing anime and sentai...

Anyway, here's an attempt to translating the "Maskman" theme.

humanda na kayo
kampon ng kadiliman
oras na ng pagtutuos
kasamaan nyo ay dapat matapos
narito na sila
bayaning tagapagtangol
sa masama'y lilipol

Prepare yourselves
Minions of darkness
For this is the time
That your evildoing should end
Here they are,
The defenders
Who will banish evildoers

sugod sugod
laban maskuman
ipagtangol nyo ang kabutihan

Onward! Onward!
Keep fighting, Maskman,
And defend what is right

buong mundo nag pupuri't nagpupugay mabuhay!
laser squadron
Maaaaskuuuumaaan!

The whole world gives praise and cheering,
"long live! Laser Squadron, Maskman! Maskman!"

Wow...kinilabutan ako habang sinusulat ko yun XD Kasi naririnig ko sa isip ko yung kanta!
